Love cakes, biscuits and perfect coffee? Bachmanns is for you! Small independent Swiss patisserie, Bachmanns, has opened its latest store in the little town of Weybridge. This shall be its second store as it has an already well established branch in Thames Ditton.
We visited last Saturday (when it had only been trading for one day) and were very impressed with the level of quality and service that the new store brings to the area. The range of sweets on offer stretch from chantilly cream filled meringues to raspberry tarts, bespoke celebration cakes to traditional swiss chocolate truffles. We also sampled the savoury items on the menu which range from small quiches, sausage rolls and toasted sandwiches.
From the outside, one could be forgiven for mistaking Bachmanns for a similar cafe chain such as Patisserie Valerie due to the oak decor and ornate embellishments such as the crystal chandelier in the middle of the room. The store may need a few more chairs to fill the space however, it seems Bachmanns are keen to stay predominantly as a patisserie rather than a cafe so perhaps this isn’t an issue…
I always find it refreshing when owners make an appearance in their own places so it was absolutely fabulous to see Chris Bachmann holding the fort and serving customers. Chris has been running the family’s Thames Ditton branch for the past 3 years and it was originally founded in 1989 by his parents, Ernst and Marilyn. It’s super to have some history behind the brand when we have so many faceless multinational corporations taking over our high streets!
In terms of value for money, for three savoury pastries, three coffees and two desserts, we felt that £20 was reasonably priced for the area and quality of the food. The atmosphere was pleasant and not too busy considering there had been much interest in the new opening. Wonder if this will change once more people are aware!
Bachmann’s in Weybridge is open Tuesday – Saturday from 9am – 5pm. Check out the website for more information: www.bachmanns.co.uk
