I wouldn’t say I was a chocoholic, but I do, on many occasions like a sweet treat – generally reaching for the biscuit tin or a slice of cake. So when Prestat offered to send me a sample of it’s brand new ‘Red Velvet Chocolate Truffles’, I jumped at the chance to try them – a famous bake turned into chocolate form, what could be better?
What I enjoyed most about these delicious truffles was the initial surprise of the intense raspberry flavour, alighting your tastebuds and making your mouth water. I still stand by my guns and think the first initial taste, does have that strong umami taste of marmite mixed with the raspberry tang but many have disagreed with me! On biting through the deliciously smooth milk chocolate shell, you’ll encounter a creamy butter icing speckled with vanilla seeds – exactly what you need to calm that initial berry blast!
Inside the neat rectangular box is a lining of red tissue paper, and approx eighteen truffles (yes, i did tuck in before counting.. hence the estimate! They’re too good to wait!). For an unusual treat, I would certainly buy these again – the chocolate is fantastic quality and for £10.99, they’re not too expensive, for a special occasion or dinner party favour!
Prestat is at the forefront of confectionery innovation, and its great to know although despite its French origin, it is a British brand through and through (the first shop was opened in 1902 on South Moulton St, London). I was most impressed by the successful Gin Truffles that were launched at Easter – it looks like the team is going from strength to strength with its new launches. Watch this space!
