In the heart of west end theatre land, sits Champagne and Fromage. A restaurant and cheese deli that serves exactly what you would imagine… Yep, Steak frites.. (Just kidding!)
The founding branch opened in 2012 and has been so successful that the new Brixton Village branch opened last year – larger than this, around 40 covers, and hosting live music nights.
I met two girlfriends here one school night and the combination of cheesy nibbly bits, beautiful bubbles and a handsome French waiter with a smooth and solid accent was heaven!
To start we had a selection of cheeses (£8) – particularly impressed with how each cheese was selected for us dependent on our tastes. Followed by a rich but not overpowering French Onion Soup (£8) – sorry to say it didn’t have the blowtorched thick cheesy crust nor chunky croutons but good nonetheless – and topped off with a traditional alpine special, a Tartiflette to share (£25). That’s a baked Camembert with potato slices inside and served alongside simple brown toast and charcuterie for dipping into the melted cheese.
The restaurant only has a few tables so I would recommend booking in advance. It can accommodate larger groups of 8+ with a long table with pedestal seating.
Come here…
